Monthly meetings are held the first Saturday of each month in the Fellowship Hall of the First Christian Church in Jacksonville located at 900 Gumbranch Road from 10am-Noon. Bring the whole family! These meetings are mostly social, but information about our group will be shared. We also occasionally have guest speakers. This is a great opportunity to meet other families and to share resources, ideas, and experiences. Our lending library is also available for browsing and borrowing books and DVDs. This event is FREE; however, we ask that you please bring a non-perishable food item for the church’s food pantry.
Moms’ Nights Out:
Our moms’ nights out are held on a monthly basis. We started out having them only every other month, but we all had so much fun we decided to do it more often! These are treat yourself events held at local restaurants. No kiddos, please. This is a great opportunity to have some fun and meet other moms who have a child with Down syndrome.
Dads’ Golf Outting:
Dads, grandpas, uncles, and friends of DSNOCC enjoyed an afternoon of golf on Saturday, June 23rd at Rock Creek Golf Course in Jacksonville!
We just hosted our first playdate in honor of World Down Syndrome Day on March 21st! Thanks to all of our families who came out for a fun day at the park!
Cookies with Santa:
“Cookies with Santa” is an annual event that is sponsored by DSNOCC, the Autism Society of Onslow County and the Family Support Network of the Crystal Coast. This special event allows children with special needs and their siblings to experience the Christmas tradition of visting with Santa in a friendly, understanding atmosphere. This event is FREE. Each child receives a developmentally and sensory appropriate wrapped gift from Santa, professional photos with Santa, refreshments, and LOTS, LOTS MORE!
Sensory-Friendly Movies at Carmike Cinema:
DSNOCC has partnered with the Autism Society of Onslow County and the Family Support Network of the Crystal Coast to sponsor monthly sensory-friendly movies at the Carmike Cinema in Jacksonville! Movies are held one Saturday a month at 10am exclusively for families who have children with special needs. Admission is $5. Lights are up; sound is down. Families can bring in their own food. Check our calendar for the next showing!
As our group grows, we hope to offer even more opportunities for fun, support, advocacy, and learning. What ideas do you have? Let us know!
